Characters: Miss Ginny Bloggs, Lord Gerald de Fremney, Miss Barbara Briggs, Miss Tansy Bloomington, Mr. Jeffery Beardington-Smythe, and Cyril Booth. Ginny, whose family's money comes from coal mines, inherits a large fortune from non-relative, Mr. Frayne. Mr. Frayne's relatives, Barbara, Tansy, Jeffery, and Cyril aren't prepared for Ginny's intelligence. Ginny plays stupid and makes everyone else look like idiots. They attempt to ruin her by abducting her twice, both times are foiled by Lord Gerald. But, someone wants to kill her. In the first attempt on Ginny's life, the gazebo she and Lord Gerald are on blow up. Then Ginny is kidnapped as she is coming home on the train. Lord Gerald rescues her and they spend a couple of days in an inn. Lord Gerald proposes but it takes convincing before Ginny realizes he loves her. Then one more attack on Ginny's life, where she is lead deep into a large cave, leads to the finding of the villain.

An interesting story but very predictable. There were several times that the story jumped several months or even a year. While this kept it very light and easy reading it did leave you wondering how some things progressed.

Ginny Bloggs has inherited a fortune and an estate - much to the disgust of the relations who have never met her. Four of them - Tansy, Barbara, Cyril and Jeffrey - are instructed under the terms of their deceased relative's will to educate Ginny in the ways of polite society.

All of them think they should have been left the money and neighbour, Lord Gerald de Fremney, has been appointed to see fair play. When Ginny arrived at Courtneys she has an interesting effect on the guests. They expect a common uncouth young woman because her father was a tradesman and what they actually get is something very different. Is Ginny really as stupid as she appears or is she very much cleverer than she chooses to reveal?

I enjoyed this light hearted Edwardian romance. There are plenty of amusing scenes and some interesting and likeable characters and a hint of mystery - is someone trying to kill Ginny?

I liked Ginny herself and could sympathise with Lord Gerald' confusion. The dialogue is fast paced and sparkling and this is a feel good read for when you want something that you can just sink into and forget your real life worries. I'm glad that these earlier romances from M C Beaton are being re-released and I look forward to reading them all over the next couple of years.

Realistic Diary of Flipping Houses (Rehab variety)

So I downloaded 5 free house flipping books, to see if I would be interested in flipping rehabbed houses. For my needs, this was by FAR the best.

The book is a cut and paste from his website, so you can get everything there - if you knew where there was.

The books is a weekly diary of an established rehab house flipper (who knew flippers came in so many varieties?). It lets you know of a wide variety of marketing tools and his response and success rate with each. Let's you know what happens when you take breaks and vacations. Gives you fix-up lists and links to on-line articles he wrote to supplement the diary while it was happening (I have not looked at these yet). Gives you a firm idea of the costs involved and the profit to be made (not as "you are going to make millions" as the hyper people say) - I like how reasonable it is.

Also lets you know of the sob stories you will hear and the emotional impact they will have on you. Only book I have read so far to have done so. Folks if you are buying houses at 50% normal cost, the sellers are not going to be doing it because they are in a good way - someone died, someone is sick, life has come up and slammed them down and they have to take all the money they can get. The plus side is you are helping them - they need money now and you are getting it to them - not 6 months to 2 years down the road. Don't feel like a sh*t doing it, and know how much you can afford to do. The author brings this out very well.

The book is repetitive - but then so is the job. All the other books I have read have been "leave paperwork and the drudgery behind and let the money pour in". This book lets you know of the constant marketing, constant networking, and constant followup you will need to do to be a successful house flipper.

Great book - most realistic, non-hyper, low-key selling book about house flipping I have read. If you want to flip houses of the rehab variety and doing preliminary research, you won't go wrong here.

This guy is very open about what he does. He explains his steps, and his difficulties. I think it would be a good resource for someone interested in flipping houses. But it gets tedious after a while.

For anyone who wants to see what the day in the life of a Real Estate Investor is like, read this book.

For anyone who wants to see how to market, analyze deals, and flip properties, read this book.

For anyone who wants to be an honorable, successful Real Estate Investor, read this book.

There are no rocks un-turned, or t's not crossed. This book gives a really great look into the different aspects of a real estate investor. From how new leads were found, to analyzing the deals, to the making of offers, Danny really gives his whole heart into this book.

After reading through the pages you will feel more confidant in getting into real estate. Even if you are already involved in RE this book will give you a fresh perspective and even give you new ideas on how you can expand your business. Remember, follow through and determination is important, as evident by some of the examples Danny gives on how he stayed in contact with his leads and was able to close on some of his deals.

The biggest thing I got out of this book was how anybody can be successful in investing in real estate. You do not have to be a big mutual fund, or corporation, to compete. You can be a family man and get the financial freedom you want. Read this book, it will open your eyes and mind and motivate you.

You'll have to tear it from my cold, dead hands...

I've used 3 editions of the author's Op Amp Cookbook over the last 15 years, and found it to be an invaluable source of practical designs, accompanied by solid descriptions of the underlying principles. Based on that experience, I expected this book to be good. I am by no means disappointed.

It isn't a cookbook, although it does include many useful concrete design examples. It is more of an applications problem-solving guide. I've often found that some of the most useful op amp design information is buried in specific device datasheets and application notes, and have often found myself wishing someone would extract all of those nuggets, organize them, fill in the gaps, and publish them. As I read through this book, I found many such nuggets (primarily derived from Analog Devices' datasheets and app notes), which I had previously regarded as hidden treasure, uncovered only by tedious slogging through numerous datasheets. This is not, however, a re-packaging of previously published app notes. The chapters are comprehensive, well-written, and well-integrated.

Those interested in audio applications may remember that the original edition of the author's Op Amp Cookbook contained an extremely useful chapter on audio circuits. In the second edition, this material was extracted and published in a separate book, which (unfortunately) went out of print and has become hard to find. You will be happy to note that the new Applications Handbook has excellent coverage of audio op amp applications and design principles.

There is nothing I can add to what others have already said positively about this book. It is really good - one of the best in its field. I also recommend Analog Device's outstanding "Designer's Guide to Instrumentation Amplifiers".

For those on a short budget, like me: you can download it for FREE from the Analog Devices website on a chapter by chapter base or zipped (17 MB), in PDF format. BTW, you can also download "Designer's Guide to Instrumentation Amplifiers " for FREE from AD's website.

Excellent Reference: Technical and Historical

This is a great textbook for electrical engineers and hobbyists with fundamental knowledge of op-amp operation. The text is easy to read and explains concepts that are understandable for both the inexperienced and experienced engineer and also gives an excellent historical treatment of op-amp evolution. The mathematics involved is concise and to the point. This text gives engineers tools to understand the op-amp beyond the ideal models presented in basic circuit theory and electronics courses given in undergraduate programs. To apply op-amps properly, you need to go beyond the simplistic assuptions - this book will help you given you have an understanding of basic electronics design and analysis. I highly recommend having this book on your shelf for a reference.
