This Book Reader Was Not a Fan

I know I am in the minority when I say this, but I just did not like the turn of events in this story. I did like the first book, Relentless, and was excited to jump into Pieces of You to see what was in store for Claire and Adam. If you've read my review of Relentless, you will know that I am a TEAM ADAM girl. Well I don't really think TEAM ADAM fans are going to love this book too much.

Before I get into my reasons for not loving this book, I need to lay my cards out on the proverbial table. I don't mind love triangles, in fact, I like love triangles when they are done correctly. However, the minute an author has the person in the middle of the triangle jumping back and forth to the extent where it crosses a line, it loses its appeal. Now, I will say there are very specific times, where this happens and I still can love the book, but they are rare. In addition, I don't like when the two people fighting for the middle one's affections don't care that the person has crossed a line and are willing to forgive them because they want them so much. End rant.

So I think you can safely assume where the story went in this book now. Claire became this wishy washy mess. What I liked about Claire in Relentless was that she grew. With the help of Adam, she broke out of her shell and allowed herself to feel again. That was all Adam. And then when Chris comes back into her life, she seems to forget about everything Adam has done for her in exchange of memories she had with Chris and the shared loss they have.

I get it. I understand why Claire is so confused. But, she became ridiculous in her reasoning for her actions. As I was reading I felt she was making one mistake after another and it just annoyed me. I felt like Claire just needed to make a decision and go with it, even if that decision was Chris. But, she kept stringing both guys along and let them both profess their undying love for her.

The one thing I will give her is that she was honest with both Chris and Adam. I respected her for that. And don't get me wrong, both Chris and Adam did some jack-butt things themselves. Neither of them were perfect in this book and they both made stupid mistakes. Ultimately, by the time I got to the ending, I was just over it. Claire got to a point where I just didn't even care who she ended up choosing.

Here's the thing. This wasn't a bad story. This was good writing and a good plot. It was planned out well and the characters were developed. It just wasn't for me. It wasn't the type of book I gush over.

But, I do recognize that some people, most people, LOVE this book and series. I'm just not one of them. So if you liked Relentless, then I do recommend you read this second book and make up your mind for yourself.

Riding the Tidal Wave Known as The Shattered Hearts Series

Author Cassia Leo has ridden another perfect wave with the second installment of her Shattered Hearts Series "Pieces of Me". I am always in awe of how great a gift an author has to hold their reader's hearts with the power of their words.

The love triangle of Adam/Claire/Chris continues in this read with Claire, the ever classic leading lady, at the hub of the story.

We do learn more of Adam and see a little of his past that makes him the man he is. We also learn how deep his love for Claire runs.

Chris is not far out the picture, for sure, when his past with Claire comes right out into the forefront in this book. He wants nothing short of a reconciliation and future with Claire.

After running the gamut of heartbreak/finding love/heartbreak once again, Claire comes to the conclusion that without personal growth she cannot truly love until she finds out who the true person she really is. Then, & only then, she might be able to be the girl that can learn to LOVE.

I cannot wait for the next installment of the "Shattered Hearts" series to find out what Cassia has in store for the future of these characters that she has brought to life that could be anyone we know.

I was always on the fence, Adam, Chris, Adam, Chris....I am leading more to Adam BUT I don't think until Cassia's last word in this series is written and read I truly will know how my heart feels....

Cassia delivers again!!

"5 stars!! Wow, this starts right where Relentless leaves off. The news of the baby, Chris finding out he has a kid he never knew existed, Adam learning a huge secret about Claire. So where to start? I guess im going to break it down by character, because otherwise my thoughts are going to be all over the place. I truly enjoyed every page of this story.

Claire- In this book, Claire is holding on by a thread. For many reasons. Shes always been conflicted about the adoption. She feels she should be punished for doing that to Chris, she doesnt see how he or his mom Jackie can ever forgive her or not look at her with disgust. Claire sees herself in the worst way. She doesnt see her value and her actions scream it. She's punishing herself when the people in her life want to hug her and tell her they love her, but to her she doesnt feel she deserves it. She has never REALLY dealt with the breakup with Chris, so many what if's. She used meditation to stuff all the feelings down, but there was always darkness. Adam goes away to work for his job, and man does that have an impact. Claire needs to find out what Claire wants, and she cant really do that with everyone pulling at her. She has so many issues to work out.

Chris- With alternating POV's, we finally get more of Chris! Chris has suffered too. Although he became a star and bangs a lot of nameless chicks, he still never got over Claire. The revelation of a baby has really stopped him in his tracks, and made him re evaluate what he's doing, who he left behind, what he cant live without. Lookbacks from his perspective on the years he spent with Claire, and his sorrow living without her. The relationship between Chris/Claire and Jackie. They really adore Claire. Chris does make some choices in this book that made me proud. He is willing to sacrifice some things, big things (in my opinion, and im not referring to quitting his music career). I became a fan of Chris in a big way.

Adam- Well, i love Adam too. He was a big player in Claire coming to life. She began to get out of her shell. Adam had his secrets, which we know from Relentless. Now he knows about the baby and he still loves her. But how do you compete with Chris Knight right?? Thats what hes thinking. They have a past, A KID, he's loaded and still adores Claire. Where does this leave him? He starts to doubt and then goes to Hawaii. Oh Adam, you idiot. I know Adam and Claire were dating a short period before all the drama hit the fan, but i really came to like him. He's loyal, giving, and loves deeply.

So anyway, theres a lot that happens that i can not tell you!! You have to read this book, you will be deeply involved in these characters, you will feel Claires despair, Chris's longing, and Adams uncertainty. Theres story about the baby. And just so you know, this story isnt over yet. The end left me with my mouth open saying " WHAT!' and i mean that in a good way. Im excited to continue their journey."

Things have always come easily and there isn’t a mystery he can’t solve

Elliot is a cynical and arrogant man used to the quiet life. Things have always come easily and there isn’t a mystery he can’t solve. Life is about order and running…that is until Hannah and Helena enter his life.

He is drawn to partaking in a magical journey to a world without rules or laws. Everything he believes about himself and his perception of the world is challenged. For him to understand his destiny Elliot must confront his past and the secrets that have been long since buried.

The Finder was a charming story. I must mention there are quite a few grammatical errors and as a reader these kinds of mistakes frustrate me- especially being throughout the story.

I felt that the story had a tendency to be a little bit redundant at times with some massive movements that threw me off track. I was hoping there could have been a better separation into knowing the difference between what is happing in the now versus what has already happened.

For this first book in the story, I would have to say there was nothing grabbing my attention. And to be honest when the book ended I was furious! I could not believe it ended the way it did BUT I will say, due to that kind of ending, I am EXTREMEMLY interested to see if the second book is as exciting as my imagination wants it to be.

A Good Start

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. This is the first novel in what, hopefully, will be a series. The author writes engagingly, and the characters and their "world" are interesting. However, it veers off from what I initially thought was a "magical" police procedural ( a la Paul Cornell's "London Falling"), to more of a standard fantasy story - and the latter is the weaker tale, in my opinion. The characters are talented and exceptional and yet sometimes demonstrate incredible obtuseness, and naivety. This is consistent with the isolated and almost hot-house, cult-like lifestyle they lead, but sometimes I want to throttle the characters for it. By the end Elliot is rather abruptly laissez faire about his new found power and knowledge, and complacent about his "too good to be true" personal life and what it requires of him. Hopefully, in the sequel, he's going to get shaken out of that complacency. If so - I'll be intrigued enough to come back for more.

Moreover, our general accounts do not, for the most part, adequately treat of those economic and imperial relations which are of fundamental importance; for the one outstanding fact concerning any American colony in the colonial period is that it was a dependency, and formed merely a part of a larger and more comprehensive imperial and economic organization. Consequently, the evolution of such a colony can be viewed correctly only when it is seen against the background of the economic and imperial conditions and theories of the time. While the author, accordingly, has endeavored to place the local story in its proper imperial setting, he has endeavored also to distinguish between its various elements, and to display the conflicting forces at work in the colonies themselves.

I downloaded Kindle for mac software on my macbook and bought this sheet music only to find out that there is no way to zoom in. The zoom control in Kindle is grayed out and will not work. The notes and text are unreadable without a magnifying glass.
