Three of them were exploded by defense satellites before they had moved more than a hundred miles but the other five flashed by the huge orbiting facilities and they couldn’t bring their weapons around fast enough to hit the fast moving ships. The Commander saw three more ships exploded by ships rushing in on them from the outer defense ring and saw that only his ship and one other had made it inside the planet’s mighty orbital defenses. The ship next to him launched missiles at the giant city under them but he saw defense lasers pick them off before they could arrive inside the planet’s atmosphere. The ship flying beside him blew up when it was hit by an incoming missile barrage from incoming defenders. The Commander looked at his flight Officer who yelled, “We’ve got to jump away.”

The Commander hit the override button on his console and took control of the ship from the bridge crew. He applied full thrusters and aimed his ship at the tall crystal buildings located in the planet’s largest city’s financial district. The crew jumped up to stop him but didn’t arrive in time. His family had died of starvation from the predatory lending policies of this planet and he was not calling off the attack. He knew that even if he did jump away, he would be followed and killed. His eight ships were nowhere close to the technological wonders this rich planet had to use against him.

Missiles and lasers began hitting his ship from the surface but they weren’t designed to penetrate a warship’s force field. The nine hundred foot long brown ship flashed through the atmosphere so fast that its sonic boom arrived ten minutes after it hit the very epicenter of the crystal towers. The sonic boom was erased by the massive shock wave that met it a mile above the city’s streets. The city ceased to exist.

IS NOT ALL BEHAVIOR. A LEARNED BEHAVIOR?

A bell rings a dog salivate's. It is called a Pavlovian reflex. All because a Doctor rang a bell then he fed a dog. Many times we find that now behavior is learned by the smallest of pleasures. A simple smile may be all that is needed to launch a thousand ship's. Ask Helen of Troy. It does not take long for such a thing to happen either. Love is such a fickle thing as well. How many romances began from a glance across a crowded room? The Italians call it the Thunderbolt. Once it strikes there is nothing for it but the consummation of this happening. How many times can this happen in one book? Three or four times. You tell me.

Great job !! Can't wait for the next book in the series. This book, is written well and exciting and seamlessly takes off from the first book with minimum "back play" There is just enough familiarity to remember the cast from book one with out all the wasted repeated info for those jumping in cold. Authors are getting smarter these days. If they label a series 1 2 3 4 5 etc, then they can assume we are hooked after book one. No need to repeat the story line. The quicker the sequel comes out, the more likely readers will remember what they need to know. I read upwards of 7 different series at a time and have just a little hesitation as I start a sequel.

For those that doubt friends can be found out of enemies....

From the beginning of their struggles, you can always find ones that can naturally lead. That's how the future generations can fill the roles of leaders needed. The time for peace has been broken. The ones who attack forgot their history and need to be taught again what it means to find peace. The struggles for peace and the determining factor to survive will always drive these leaders to seek opportunities that can make that difference. Some need to have faith to face an enemy to find the solution needed to survive. And some need to be shown what an enemy turned friend can do to help.

Among America’s presidents, Harry Truman’s presidency produced some of the nation’s most crucial decisions and left one of the nation’s most unique legacies. The new president had to usher America through victory in Europe in his first month and decide to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki a few months later, but the end of World War II produced only the first of many consequential decisions Truman would face during his nearly 8 years in office. As president, Truman would lay the groundwork for the next 50 years of American foreign policy, as the architect of Cold War containment, the man who signed off on the Marshall Plan, and the commander-in-chief during much of the Korean War.

Despite being one of America’s oldest presidents, Eisenhower redefined the public relations nature of the office, in addition to positioning America during the Cold War standoff with the Soviet Union. But Eisenhower’s most lasting contribution as president was the construction of the interstate highway system, and it was in the final year of his presidency that his administration planned and implemented the Apollo space program that would land men on the Moon in 1969. By the time he died in 1969, President Nixon aptly described Eisenhower as “the world's most admired and respected man, truly the first citizen of the world.”

In many ways, John Fitzgerald Kennedy and his young family were the perfect embodiment of the ‘60s. The decade began with a sense of idealism, personified by the attractive Kennedy, his beautiful and fashionable wife Jackie, and his young children. Months into his presidency, Kennedy exhorted the country to reach for the stars, calling upon the nation to send a man to the Moon and back by the end of the decade. In 1961, Kennedy made it seem like anything was possible, and Americans were eager to believe him. The Kennedy years were fondly and famously labeled “Camelot,” by Jackie herself, suggesting an almost mythical quality about the young President and his family.

Of all the politicians who have left their mark on American history, few have had a political career or list of accomplishments and accolades that can even come close to rivaling Lyndon B. Johnson. Johnson is one of only 4 Americans to serve as a House Rep, U.S. Senator, Vice President and President, and he made the most out of each experience. The hard-nosed Texas Democrat became one of the legendary strongmen in the Senate, mastering that political body from 1949-1961 and spending six years as Senate Majority Leader, two as Senate Minority Leader, and two as Senate Majority Whip.

The 70+ year old former actor Ronald Reagan went on to have one of the most consequential presidencies of the 20th century, unquestionably making him one of the most influential men of the last 50 years. And his name is still as relevant in American politics today, with every politician with an R next to his or her name trying to claim Ronald Reagan’s conservative mantle. In the Republican presidential nomination debates in 2011, Reagan’s name was invoked an average of over 5 times per debate, more than every other president combined. Meanwhile, Americans of all stripes continue to debate the merits of “Reaganomics” more than 30 years after Reagan was elected.

Informative, BUT...

Seriously needs an editor. Spelling, word usage and above all repetition made this a harder read than it should have been. I have never seen an author use cut and paste like this one did.

I enjoyed the biographies of the men that (for the most part) I consider the greatest American Presidents. Each man had his flaws, but led our country through trying times and managed to prevent the nuclear cataclysm we all feared.
